Research Ethics: Moral decision-making in Science
courseFurtherInformation
Ethical considerations frequently emerge with regard to the design, execution and applications of scientific research. This module briefly introduces philosophical theories of ethics and explores their applicability as well as limitations in establishing and assessing ethical standards of research. Examples from the life and social sciences will be discussed and participants will be encouraged to reflect on the ethical implications of their own research or field of study. The principal learning objective is to become familiar with ethical argumentation so this can be applied to common practices of risk assessment and ethical approval applications of research projects.
Participants should be aware that they may be given a small amount of reading material that should be studied prior to the session.
