Course further information

When you finish your PhD, you have to decide whether you want to try and carry on in academia or not. To fully understand this decision, you need to have a clear view on your options and long-term perspectives. What is needed to be successful in the long run and get a long-term position in German universities and research institutions? What will be expected of you on your way to an academic career?

In the workshop, you will get an insight into the German academic system and the framework for academic careers. You will receive some information to help you evaluate your chances and to know what is important if you decide to follow an academic career.

We will be working on:
  • academic long-term positions: professor, alternatives
  • legal framework: Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (academic employment law)
