The Nagoya-Protocol: Information for researchers who work with genetic resources and/or to traditional knowledge associated with genetic resources
courseFurtherInformation
When you acquire genetic material from abroad (excluding human DNA), you may be subject to the due diligence and reporting requirements of the Nagoya Protocol. This international treaty regulates access to genetic resources and the equitable sharing of benefits arising from their use in research and development (so-called "access-and-benefit-sharing", ABS). In Jena, the Friedrich-Schiller-University, iDiv, Leibniz HKI, MPI for Chemical Ecology and the University Hospital recognize the importance of compliance with the Nagoya Protocol and support its implementation. Thus, these entities are happy to invite their researchers to this online information and networking session!
In this event, the renowned German Nagoya Protocol HuB project will share its expertise and give you relevant insights to assess whether your research might have ABS obligations. You will get all the basics that you need to be compliant with obligations stemming from the Nagoya Protocol and the EU ABS regulation, incl. tools and tips already available for you to educate yourself. You will also learn more about user checks that take place in Germany, incl. some of the consequences for being non-compliant. In addition, you have the opportunity to get in touch with the counseling and supporting structures at your research facility. In the end, we will have plenty of time for you to ask questions!
