Finding a Job in Germany – Applying and Working outside Academia

This seminar provides you with the necessary information to manage the application process particularly on the job market outside academia.

- Job-seeking strategies: On the first day you will understand how to target your search for future employment, and where you can look for vacancies. There will also be explanation and practice about the meaning of typical German phrases in job advertisements.
- Application Documents: Beyond that, you will learn how to write your cover letter and CV, and how best to adapt your application to the job offer.
- Job Interviews: In the next part you will get general information about job interviews, including typical questions asked and ways of answering them while avoiding common mistakes. You will rehearse introducing yourself to become more self-confident.
- Work Permit: This section gives you a brief overview of the current situation, incl. conditions to get a work permit.
- Working Conditions: Finally, you will get to find out everything about the general conditions and legal guidelines when in work, for example the number of holidays you are entitled to, your hours of work, and typical salaries.
- Preparation: To ensure an effective training please bring a printed job description of your preferred job or select an example for your field of interest.
