This workshop is aimed at all students who work with texts and want to learn the basics of programming with Python. It is therefore primarily intended for students in the humanities, social sciences, and of law, but is also open to anyone who is interested in learning to program.

We will start with a general introduction to the basic concepts of programming and into how a computer works. Then, you will learn the basic elements of programming — such as instructions, variables, loops, and conditional statements. As part of this workshop, you will write a program that finds the most frequently used words in an entire book, allowing you to gain an initial glimpse into the text’s content.

We hold this workshop in an interactive and hands-on fashion with the teaching segments interleaved with many exercises in the Python programming language. To foster an interactive atmosphere between participants and intructors, we offer this workshop in person and not as a hybrid course.

The course language is English.
