Data cleansing and quality improvement with OpenRefine
Course further information
Are you working with data organised in spreadsheets? Do you usually spend more time on data cleansing and data quality improvements than on data analysis? And do you want a powerful tool, that is free of charge and runs on every computer, including your local PC? If your answer to these questions is YES, then you should consider registering for this hands-on workshop.
In this hands-on workshop we will first introduce what OpenRefine is and what it can do. You will learn how to import your data into OpenRefine, how to find and correct errors in your data, how to transform data, and how to save and export your cleaned data from OpenRefine. Finally, we will point you to additonal resources.
Participating in this workshop does not require any prior knowledge of OpenRefine.
Installation instructions will be sent to you 1 week before the course starts.
This workshop is based on the Library Carpentry lesson OpenRefine.
To ensure seamless operation during the workshop, a short technical trial (5-10 minutes) is scheduled on week before the course.
The technical test will take place on October 29 from 11:30 to 12:15 and on October 30 from 8:30 to 9:15. If you are unable to attend on these dates, an individual appointment will be arranged.
The course is aimed at all researchers in Jena and the Thuringian universities. If there are still places available, external participants may also be admitted. Please send an e-mail in advance to zedif@uni-jena.de
